About TenantClaim

Last updated September 29, 2026

TenantClaim is dedicated to bringing algorithmic transparency to US tenant rights. We turn scattered security-deposit statutes into deadline math, statutory damage estimates, and a USPS Certified Mail ready demand letter that tenants can send without guessing which code section applies.

Mission

Most tenants never read the statute that controls their deposit. We publish the return window, bad-faith multiplier, itemization duty, and small-claims ceiling for each covered state, then run the same numbers a clerk or judge would see. The goal is civic self-help, not a marketplace for legal services.

Methodology and verification

Regulation records are compiled directly from official state legislative codes hosted on .gov domains and from judicial-branch self-help portals that publish small-claims limits. Each state record stores the statute title, a HTTPS citation URL, and a lastVerifiedAt timestamp. We do not accept landlord-industry summaries as a primary source.

When a legislature amends a return window or penalty, we re-read the enrolled code text, update the structured fields, and refresh the verification date. Calculator math uses UTC calendar days and rolls a weekend deadline to the following Monday so the displayed date is conservative for tenants.
